I think that it was from a poisoned sword.

Well in Hamlet, there are a lot of subplots ( as you should know if you are reading it ), but as to hamlets actual death it comes from a injury during a sword duel by Laertes and Hamlet near the end of the play, Leartes is avenging the death of his father and the anger towards Hamlet becasue he believes that he caused ophelias suicide. Laertes and Claudius plan to get rid of Hamlet by proposing a duel between the two, in that duel Hamlets mom dies from drinking poison in a cup (intended for hamlet incase he beat Laertes ) hamlet gets hit with the sword, the swords are then mixed up in the confusion, hamlet kills Laertes with the poisoned sword, then kills Claudius and then appoints Fortinbras as king of Denmark then finally dies!
