Damn'd if we know

The main reason for guessing he didn't write it is the radical change in poetic style (generally considered inferior, though Sh could write doggeral when he wanted). Since the play wasn't published until the Folio, it spent close to 20 years lying around the theatre. We know that it was a general practice to touch up scripts for revivals, and so the guess is that at some point the popular taste was for more spectacle so someone was told to stick in some razzle-dazzle. We'd like to think that if it was Sh, he'd have done a better job of it.
