ophelia/hamlet

one must remember the time in which Sh llived. Women were not, and sadly sometimes are still not, seen as more than one dimentional characters AT BEST. Even with a woman on the Throne of the British Empire, they were treated as chattle or,seen as adornment. The Queen is still referred to the virgin queen, no matter how much evidence there is proving otherwise. Besides, Sh himself had conflicting views on women, as most people do. Some are strong, some are worthy of mention, some are worthy of great affection, some are not worth the time it takes to mention them. This is unfortunately a truism of all people regardless of their sex, status, nationality, creed, whatever. Ophelia and Hamlet probably never did have a sexual relationship, but true to Sh, and to his credit, his plots, and storylines don't rely on sex to save them, or even inhance them. Something many playwrights of today could take a cue from.
