Slave Narratives

These include the hundreds written in antebellum U.S. The most famous ones
are Frederick Douglass's NARRATIVE OF A LIFE and Harriet Jacobs's INCIDENTS
IN THE LIFE OF A SLAVE GIRL. Douglass actually quotes from Hamlet as he is
deciding whether to attempt escape or not.
